Relieving Christ This Christmas: Keeping Traditions Alive (2014-2015)

Amidst the frenzied commercialization of Christmas with big celebrations and parties, people often lament the loss of the true spirit of the festival- remembering the birth and advent of Christ. It might be really tough to bring the hardcore traditions back because of the constant overlapping of extravagant celebrations with age old methods; we can still do a bit here and there to ‘put Christ back into Christmas’. Check out a few ways you can relive the spirit and still celebrate Christmas like you always have!

A gift for God –We all make New Year resolutions, but let’s face it- hardly a few of these are upheld. Promise something to your god, leaving a bad habit, or forgive someone you have held a grudge for a long time now. It will be a gift to God from you.

·         You all have sometime or the other read the story of Jesus Christ’s birth in school. Relieve the story again with your family from Luke 1:5-56 to 2:1 -20. Spare some time to discuss it with your family.
·         Set up a nativity or manger scene. Engage the children in the family so that it helps them learn new craft stuffs. There are several ideas on Google on how to make a nativity scene which will interest the kids.

·         Plan and do a good deed with your family. Know somebody in need of a help? Christmas is a good time for it and see how can you brighten up somebody’s day and yours too by being a good Samaritan.

·         Gift the members of your family something personal and meaningful. It does not have to be really pricey or anything. Make it real, help your mother finish up a very important task or fix your father’s favourite old motorbike and see how you bring a smile to their faces.
Of course there are the usual traditional methods of baking cookies, attending a church service and gifting your siblings or the young ones. Combine these with the above ideas and see a transformed Christmas this year!
